Don’t like the fact that you can’t buy alcohol on Sundays? Well, as a Sandy Springs resident, you are going to get a chance to vote on changing the law. On August 16th, the Sandy Springs City Council voted 6-0 to put the question of whether to allow package alcohol sales in Sandy Springs on Sundays on the Nov. 8 ballot. However, the council has the option to back out if the cost of putting it on the ballot is too high.
If the question remains on the ballot, and is passed, then the new law would take effect January 1, 2012. It would allow retailers to sell alcohol between 12:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on Sundays.
The Sunday alcohol sales has been a debate in Georgia for years, and allowing Sunday sales in a metro Atlanta city would be a tremendous change. What do you think about the bill? What are some reasons to continue forbidding the sell of alcohol on Sundays? What are some reasons to change it?
