USA Crit Speed Week is almost upon us, and all races point to Sandy Springs. Speed Week is a series of 10 races that take place over seven days, beginning with the Athens Twilight and ending in Sandy Springs. $150,000 of prize money is up for grabs for the men and women elite/professional teams partaking in the series. Yet, don’t feel left out if you aren’t a professional cyclist because the 4th Annual Global BMW Sandy Springs Cycling Challenge, taking place on May 8, 2011, is open for everyone to participate.
All riders will receive a T-Shirt just for completing the race, and proceeds will go to support the police and fire departments in Sandy Springs. You can pre-register online or on the day of the event, when registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the ride begins an hour later. It’s only $25 to participate, and that includes your T-shirt as well as admission to the rest of the activities. No, the fun does not end just because you’ve crossed the finish line as the day is packed with festivities. After the ride, you are free to enjoy the Track Side Dining, featuring a variety of Sandy Springs eateries as well as a first class art show and a concert at the finale.
For more information, including a schedule of the day’s events and online registration, visit http://sandyspringschallenge.org
