MoviesByMoonlightLogo2 Leadership Sandy Springs Presents Movies By MoonlightThroughout the summer, you’ve probably noticed many cities hosting free outdoor movies. Luckily, Sandy Springs has an outdoor movie series hosted by Leadership Sandy Springs that takes place in the fall, offering a much more tolerable climate.

Held on selected Friday evenings this fall, the 7th Annual Movies by Moonlight features three movies shown under the stars on a 45-foot screen. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., and the movies start at dusk. Admission and parking are free.

The movies are shown on the terraced lawn at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church’s Hitson Activity Center, located at the intersection of Mount Vernon Highway and Sandy Springs Circle, 86 Mount Vernon Hwy. Attendees should enter from Sandy Springs Circle.

The 2011 dates and movies include:

  • Sept. 9: RIO
  • Sept. 23: Soul Surfer
  • Oct. 14: Secretariat

Moviegoers are encouraged to arrive early and enjoy pre-movie activities for the children and entertainment including public safety presentations. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are allowed. Pizza, popcorn, ice cream, snacks and drinks will be for sale onsite. Pets and alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

In case of uncertain weather on the day of the movie, please call 404-256-9091 for an update. Information will be posted on the Leadership Sandy Springs website around 6:00 pm that day.

Located in the Williams-Payne House at Heritage Green, the exhibit will be on display through February 15, 2012.

The exhibit actively engages visitors in learning about the long, but little known tradition of policing and fire fighting in Sandy Springs by examining the roots of policing and fire/rescue as the Sandy Springs community developed and grew in population and ethnic diversity.

Heroes of Sandy Springs will be located in the changing exhibit galleries of the Heritage Sandy Springs Museum. Each room will feature interpretive panels containing historic photographs and narratives and cases will display artifacts including badges, patches, equipment and other significant items. Visitors will be inspired by the stories of all volunteer groups that worked tirelessly to protect our community, and how the small volunteer forces became the world-class, professional departments that Sandy Springs has today.

Museum hours are Wednesday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and by appointment. Museum admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children ages 6-12, $1 for senior citizens 65 and older and free for Heritages Sandy Springs members and children ages 5 and under. The gift shop is open to the public free of charge. The Museum is located at 6075 Sandy Springs Circle, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. Parking is available on Sandy Springs Place in designated parking lots.
