Great news. It appears that Santa is on schedule and is heading across the Atlantic Ocean as we write this. So it may be time to get the cookies and milk ready and get the kids tucked into their beds for the night. Santa is on his way to the Sandy Springs area, so be ready.
If you’re one of those people who have actually lit a fire in their fireplace in this warm weather, make sure you put it out before Santa arrives. He never likes it when his britches get singed.
Also, if you want to keep up to date on Santa’s progress, click here for the Santa Tracker.
Happy Holidays from the team here at AllAboutSandySprings.com.

Promenade at NorthPlace Slashes Prices
December 24, 2008 by aaronhofmann

The Promenade at NorthPlace recently auctioned a select number of their brownstone townhomes. They have now slashed prices for a limited time. The homes have been reduced by a minimum of $100,000, creating a great buying opportunity.
The townhomes were originally all priced in the $300s and now are starting from $199,000. Combined with historically low rates, it’s a great time to make a home purchase one of your 2009 goals.
The Promenade at NorthPlace is conveniently located in the city of Sandy Springs, which is one of the Atlanta’s most affluent residential communities. The neighborhood is situated at Abernathy Road and Barfield Road.
Feel free to contact us if you have any detailed questions about the Promenade at NorthPlace townhomes or any of the surrounding Sandy Springs neighborhoods.

Every Dog Has Its Day…Eventually
December 12, 2008 by aaronhofmann

Sandy Springs dogs would be disappointed to know that a tract of land proposed to provide them with a playground has been deemed to valuable for dogs. The proposed dog park was to be erected at Great Park at Morgan Falls, an area north of Morgan Falls dam, however after city workers removed bamboo from the bluff a stunning riverfront view was revealed.
It appears as though plans for the dog park have been put on permanent hold while city officials decide how to proceed. The view from the bluff is quite extraordinary and many city officials feel it would be better served as an oasis for Sandy Springs residents, not their dogs.
As it stands, city officials will continue to search for a location for the dogs, but for now they’ll have to wait to have “their day”.
If you are in search of a local dog park to take your four legged friend, try the East Roswell Park’s dog park, which is just north of Sandy Springs or Piedmont dog park just south of Sandy Springs.

Sandy Springs to purchase former Target site
December 11, 2008 by aaronhofmann
The Sandy Springs City Council approved $8 million purchase the 8-acre former Target site on the corner of Johnson Ferry Road and Sandy Springs Circle last month. It seems that Sandy Springs residents are in odds over this purchase.
Can a city incorporated a little over three years ago, go from being conservative and cautious in their spending to purchasing a property for the future?
The sale is due to close next week on December 16th.The purchase does not include the adjacent Goodwill store or property, which is connected to the Target building.
“This will not take any funds from any of our programs that provide local services to the community. … They will move forward,” Mayor Eva Galambos said at the council meeting.
Dist. 1 Councilman Doug MacGinnitie said projects that should take priority over a new City Hall include rebuilding Hammond Park, repaving streets, building sidewalks, making intersection and traffic improvements, improving parks and neighborhoods, and fixing the city’s stormwater system.
But ultimately this may have been an opportunity that Sandy Springs could not pass up. With property values lagging, there is no better time to buy.
It’s not easy to find 8 acres available in the center of Sandy Springs and this could be the first step towards revitalization of Sandy Springs and the creation of a new city center. Whether this will be used for a new police department or a new City Hall, is uncertain at this time.
But it is clear that if Sandy Springs wants to create a central identity for this young city, future purchases will be needed to assemble the land necessary to bring this to fruition. Now that this purchase is nearing completion, the next few months should bring more clarity on the vision for Sandy Springs future development.

Sandy Springs Approves School’s Athletics Complex
December 8, 2008 by aaronhofmann
Following the withdrawal of the Epstein School’s plans for expansion , the Sandy Springs city council voted 4-2 Tuesday to allow Holy Spirit Preparatory School to build an athletics complex, including a football field, on a site near an established neighborhood.
Some residents and opponents to the council’s vote felt the three year old city of Sandy Springs had broken a promise to protect the integrity of the neighborhoods .
“The intention was to provide better representation to the citizens of this area,” said Mark Wolfe, who opposed the project.
Holy Spirit is a Catholic school for children in pre-kindergarten through high school. It already has two academic campuses. The athletics complex will include an administrative building, a combined football and soccer field, seating for 400 spectators and tennis courts.
The site is an eight-acre parcel of undeveloped land off Long Island Drive, just south of I-285.
More than 200 residents and school boosters attended the council meeting Tuesday, spilling over into an adjoining room.
The city planning staff had recommended denial of the project, which needed a special use permit and four variances from city zoning laws. Critics complained it violated the city’s plans for land use.
Advocates argued the conditions imposed — such as limits on the number of games and hours of operation — would mitigate problems with traffic, noise and lighting. The council voted to limit the number of night home games to 12 a year and they would be required to end at 11 p.m.
